What is an FAL Match? Every year in the spring RBGC plays host to a match celebrating ‘The Free World’s Right Arm” the FN- FAL rifle. Issued to troops of over 80 countries, the Fusil Automatique Léger (Light Automatic Rifle) or FAL was created by the famed Belgian armaments manufacturer Fabrique Nationale de Herstal (FN), and manufactured under license in many countries around the world. The semi-auto version is still quite popular among civilian shooters.
This rifle has a dedicated following of River Bend members who created a match specifically to challenge the capabilities of this unique rifle. Including both target and "action" stages, the FAL Match at River Bend is a truly unique, exciting, and fun match! Keeping with the spirit and purpose of this match, only FN-FAL type rifles are allowed.

What happens at this match?
The match has several elements.
First, the match proper, which consists of two events. The action stage and the target stage.
The action stage is USUALLY around 60-70 mandatory hits. If you were to shoot it clean, which never happens. Most folks run a rig with 4 or 5 mags on it and start by loading one and tossing one on the mat. This stage is normalized to a score of 300 for the shooter who shot it best. Everyone else gets points percentage as in AP or IPSC.
The target stage is a 100 yard high-power target you shoot 10 rounds standing, 10 rounds sitting, and 10 rounds prone, in a 3 minute time limit... while half or a third of the other competitors join you in this effort. I suggest the left side if you think you have a chance or the middle if you want the full experience. Your score here is the other 'half' of your score.
Thus ends the match proper. Half your score is the action stage and half is the target stage.
There are also several side matches.
Will Owensby runs a Browning Hi Power side match on AP 3 where you can shoot yours or use his and even buy ammo for that match. That stage ends in getting to shoot a Swedish K submachinegun.
Because Will is a complete badass.
The next side match is the 600 yard stage. It's just that...some simple stage shooting at steel torso targets on high-power from 100 to 600 yards. A FULL 20 round mag might suffice. I'd take two if I ever
went up there.
Both of the above side matches take place within the time frame in which everyone shoots the action stage...so you don't get bored.
The last side match is run after we are done with the target stage. It's called 'Drop 8' and is a simple race to hit 8 steel targets in under 10 seconds. If they can, they get a challenge coin stamped with their name and time. I let shooters run this as many times as they like...but I have only handed out 5 challenge coins. I don't have one.
